Many of us are still working in our homes. During this time we will use a lot of data for work, streaming content, playing games, and more. And because of that many of us have put stress on networks plus some have seen a significant reduction in download and upload speeds.
If you think you're experiencing slow internet speeds, here's what you can do to try and fix the problem:
Sometimes the router gets very hot due to constant staying online and has many operational problems. You can try and fix this by simply rebooting your WiFi router. If that doesn't solve the problem, there may be a technical problem with your route.
If none of the above solves your speed issues, you'll need to cut off streaming content while listening to music, so that your WiFi can provide you with speed to meet your daily tasks. After finishing your work you can come back to your streaming and playing games.
Check to see if your PC or any member of your household has started updating in the background. Updates seem to have a lot of bandwidth.
Check if your mobile device is getting the full signal. Sometimes devices do not receive proper signals which cause the speed of the internet to fluctuate.
Check if you haven't used your assigned data for the day. Sometimes when we play games or consume the content we don't know that we have used all our data. If your data pack has run out, you can get a booster to refill it.
Your phone may be connected to a distant tower even when there is a tower nearby, which may cause it not to receive signals properly. Thus the cause of issues with internet speed. To fix this, you can turn on the airplane mode of your device to disconnect from the previous tower and connect to another tower and turn it off after a few seconds. You can also restart your phone to do this.
Mobile updates take up a lot of space and if it starts to happen when you are replying to an important email or while someone is working, it will slow down the internet. Turn off the auto-updates-updates option in the settings panel and update when you're not working or let the update download and install overnight.
If the speed of your mobile data does not fluctuate after doing all this, then there may be a problem with the device's network settings. Reset them from the settings panel to fix the issues.
If you think you're experiencing slow internet speeds, here's what you can do to try and fix the problem:
How to check internet speed
To check the speed of the Internet on a desktop or laptop, you need to open the web browser of your choice and go to a speed testing website like Speedtest.net or Fast.com. There you will be able to upload and upload the downloads that your internet service provider is delivering. But, ultimately, all you are measuring is how quickly you can connect to a particular machine that is set up to measure speed in this way.
When you connect to a web site, information between your computer and that web site can be routed in a number of different ways, and may not take the same route all the time. The web site you're connecting to maybe running slowly because it's deluged with users, or faster than usual because many of its users are glued to a dramatic news story on the TV. Another system in the same data center might be being attacked, having a knock-on effect on traffic, and so on.
In short, there are lots of things that can affect any particular thing you are doing on the internet. The speed of your connection is just one of them. Speed test sites can be useful in determining if you have a systemic problem - like highlighting a drop in speed when the neighborhood kids come home from school, or in bad weather.
But they can't give you anything other than a snapshot of how things look between your computer and theirs, as the web is too decentralized and information routed in so many different ways.
In the future, they may become even more confusing, as ISPs provide servers for things like video content delivery closer to their end customers (for example, BT's new 'Content Connect' delivery system). With such systems in place, you may find that, though your speed as measured by a testing site looks low, you don't have the problems accessing online video that the results would suggest, because that video is coming from a parallel network (and maybe being paid for separately, effectively - some packages might provide a cheap low-speed net connection, alongside guaranteed video performance); the speed test sites will not be able to tell you much, if anything, about the performance you'll receive from those parallel networks.Fixing wifi speed
Now when you are working from home, your 2 Mbps plan, which will be more than 100 GB, will not be able to carry the workload. We recommend that you check with your ISP before you know that your data cap has expired and also check if you need more speed than your current plan offers.Sometimes the router gets very hot due to constant staying online and has many operational problems.
