OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro with clean Android |
I don't think I'm the only one who prefers a software experience without bloatware, without various functions and programs added by those who sell laptops, desktops, mobile phones and tablets. That's why I like OnePlus phones, which use Oxygen OS, a very clean version of Android, without things you don't need to make your life and phone difficult.
Today the manufacturer announced the new series of cheap flagship phones from 2020: OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Although the last generations of OnePlus have taken very small steps, in the case of the new models there are enough changes to make you think of an upgrade.
Technical specifications
It's weird how quickly users' preferences change. In just a few years I went from 5 inch, 5 inch phones and something to almost 7 inch diagonal phones. OnePlus even talks about the OnePlus 8 model as a "flagship compact", at 6.55 inches.

In reality, the phones are not as gigantic as they seem, due to the curved screen and very thin edges. But if you put a case on the two, it will certainly not be easy for you to use them with one hand.
Otherwise, I really like the design of the new models, very fine, with quality materials (glass on the back and front, aluminum frame) and in general with simple lines.

But let's get back to the specifications. As it suits a phone with pretensions to run side by side with flagships that cost almost twice as much, we are talking about Snapdragon 865 processor, which comes bundled with 5G, aided by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal memory that unfortunately cannot be expanded with microSD cards.
On the back we get three, respectively four cameras, the main one having a 48 megapixel sensor, a number that no longer seems so impressive in 2020, but the megapixels are not the ones that give a quality image, so let's not comment until we see what pictures do the phones take.
The differences between OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro: which is worth buying?
It is not the first generation OnePlus that comes in two models. This time the differences are quite substantial, but fortunately the trade-offs are quite insignificant if you choose the non-Pro model.
Let's see what these differences are in an easy-to-follow list:
Screen : higher resolution, higher diagonal and 120 Hz instead of 90 Hz on Pro;
Certifications : OnePlus 8 Pro comes with IP68 dust and water resistance certification;
Cameras : Pro comes in addition with the 3X optical zoom telephoto camera, an ultrawide camera with better resolution and depth sensor instead of the macro camera. The selfie camera is a little brighter;
Battery : slightly higher capacity on the Pro (4510 vs 4300 mAh) and for the first time for OnePlus wireless charging at 30 W on the more expensive model. However, both are charged at 30 watts per wire, ie from 0 to 50% in just over 20 minutes.
It's easy to see that you don't have much reason to regret the Pro model. Yes, charging at 30 watts is very fast, but you have to buy a special wireless charger. Otherwise, the phone is compatible with the Qi standard, but at a speed of only 5 watts.
I would always choose a simple OnePlus 8, especially since the price differences are significant.

How much does OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro cost
Everything is fine when you look at the specifications. Unfortunately, the price has risen a bit, as is the case with the second generation of OnePlus phones, to be honest. It is true that we are still talking about top phones with lower prices than the competition, but the difference decreases quite a lot every year.
